This fracture was brought on by the pga tour Greg Norman tried to work with the pga tour and take golf all over the world but they just said we don't need to play worldwide we only need to make money for our American sponsors growing the game only in America is now showing up the pga's short-sightedness
Rahm pledged his loyalty to PGA…Jay (PGA) then turned their back on him (and the others)…that in my book means all is off the table…so why does he still have to sing to their tune? Golf is a business and he is a sole propietor…so he has to answer to himself and his family. What you, PGA and whoever think about that is your issue…not his. It's as simple as that…Good bye PGA…GO LIV!!! A few more top players will follow Jon because 3 more needed for his team, so another 4 will be added for a 14th team. And with that the PGA has lost too much value to convince any investor to pay top dollar for that. Liv on the other hand will have the better players, thus increasing their value (plus the money in the kitty from PIF)…so if TV Sport bosses are clever they will have to jump ship or follow PGA into irrelevance…and OWGR will be forced either to give LIV players points, or risk the possibility of becoming as irrelevant as the PGA (same as what DP Tour is now)…my opinion anyway.
Once Liv gets the team format dialed in, whether it be country vs country or brand vs brand, it will change the game
can you mention that, initially, Greg Norman and his backers went to the PGAT in a bid to work with the PGAT…flatly rejected…
At the end of the day LIV have not got a global tv deal or any ROI….how long do they continue to burn this sort of money before it becomes unsustainable?
PGAT overvstated their hand on these events and thought they were more important than they are.
Qualifying for 3 majors is still possible for LIV players !
I’ve said this over and over, Jay Monahan is the reason why LIV existed. He just needs to go away.
when you will you take this down given Finau's decision? You and the rest were so wrong.
How do you guys put on a podcast without even a modicum of research on Tony Finau? Just plain lazy and stupid
Here's the issue, and you guys hit on it! LIV can survive without sponsors for quite a while. The PGAT can't …………. it's really that simple!
Go Greg, go Phill
Liv makes total sense for players with families,PGA needed a wake-up call ,negotiations should have happened long time ago with Greg Norman ,but they ignored him, little too late now.
I do not care!
Would Johnny Harris look to a bigger deal to have the tournament at Quail Hollow to be a LIV event?
If Jay Monahan does not sort out a merger with liv. Other sponsors may leave him high and dry.
Liv should become the “superstar tour” where the big names that draw eyeballs are all put on teams and copy that LIV structure while the smaller dudes simultaneously play the small pga events. All pro golfers have a “minimum” contract of 60-100k whether they perform, make cuts, etc yada yada. Get rid of designated events, replace them with LIV events, keep the FedEx cup running with LIV team and individual scoring. What matters here, is more entertaining golf the people want to watch, paying the guys for that, while not shafting up and coming grinders/smaller tour players.
If Scheffler doesn't leave the PGA, like right now, he will financially regret it!
His agent needs to be on the phone and plane talking with LIV Golf.
This blind loyalty these guys have for the PGA is simply idiotic.
The PGA tour is a great representation of America and all of its problems
Time to give PGA Executives retirement packages & thank them for their service. Then let PGA players vote to how they want the historic PGA Tour (national regional USA) run.
Hard for PGA to have much appeal to PE's when they lose sponsors like Honda, AT&T, and Well Fargo. The PGA cares less about the fan, they are trying to maintain control in their Ivory tower. Bad news for the PGA is the fact that we are going into a serious recession and these PE's know that as well. The PE's expect a return and their window for investments runs 5-8 years at the very most.
PIF has a £750bl pot to play with.. the PGA will soon not have a pot to piss in.
Liv is garbage, watching a bunch of already rich guys play golf like a country club tournament is trash. The PGA tour will be the best as always if they just stand their ground! Don’t let liv people play anymore pga tournaments!
Sponsors will back out if more big name players leave. I went to the Wells Fargo @ Quail Hollow the past 2 years and went multiple years before Covid (all weekend rounds). There was a different feel/buzz at the 2023 tournament. I can’t explain it, but it felt different. Regardless of tickets sold, there were fewer people on Saturday and no one had huge crowds around them that I saw. A few years ago there were lines 20-30 deep at concessions, this year no more than 10 and all the big names had hordes of people following them on every hole.
The PGA should have worked with LIV. Very badly played. Very bad. I wonder if the initial agreement was just to put off LIV. If that's the case, it obviously did not work.
I believe the answers is to do what the Green Bay Packers did and sell bonds and be a community own tour. This way all parties involved get what they want. Cities get to keep their Tour Stop, Local Charities continue to receive support, the PGAT gets a cash infusion, PIF gets a seat at the table and sponsors wont be asked to dig deeper. A third party can be brought in to manage the bonds and satifisy the US Govt in a merger agreement. Everybody wins. All that needs to be worked out is 6 overseas TS on the LIV schedule.
Fire Jay Monahan immediately. Terrible manager. His reaction to LIV is historically bad. God forbid he ever controls LIV players or that tour.
The other potential losers if LIV and or Private Equity’s take over the PGA Tour, are the Charities the Tpur supports. Any thoughts on this?
The PGA tour had monopoly the players couldn't even use their own photograph taken on tour, they no longer have a Monopoly.
Mens golf in general, no matter where it’s played is 💩 now a days and getting worse. I stopped watching it about 3 years ago
The PGA and Jay Monahan is emblematic of what is wrong with our country. A group off self serving, out of touch guys with zero self awareness are acting as though there are zero consequences to their actions.
LIV will never see me watching one of those events.
I don't watch liv
Spot on gentleman!!! Still love Jon and LONG LIVE LIV!!!!
How can the pga compete with the funding of and entire country. A rich country. Liv has no business platform. They are just using billions of oil money to buy gravy suckers. It's not a business. They are not collecting revenue to compensate for expenditures. It's a murderous government cleaning there image in the world. As long as you liv fans can admit that I am all ears. But don't pretend liv is a legitimate entity. The golfers sold there souls to work for tribal gangsters. The golfers are now owned by the saudi government. It's disgusting to see a beloved national treasure sold to the bone-saw boys.
This is all good for Rory ,pretty soon he’ll be the only one playing on thepga tour he’ll make a ton of money
This is my opinion if LIV would go to 72 holes and get world rankings . These guys are independent contractors in golf. They should be able to play anywhere they want. Then you can see all your top golfers can play majors as well Ryder cup and pres. Cup. They represent their country wherever they play golf.
The problem with Wells Fargo is that they are corrupt as hell with sleazy business practices. Maybe the general public isn’t aware of it, but people in the financial world do. Is that a sponsor the PGA Tour wants to be associated with?
Does the PGA having had a monopoly lead to an apathetic position that allowed for a hostile takeover?
Where are the new young players going to come from for liv. As it’s new and have players only have come from the pga.
LIV is only golf I watch.
The PGA took the players for granted because they were the only option. Professional golfers are independent contractors, not employees. They pay for travel, lodging, meals for themselves and their caddies. No health insurance, no anything. Yes, the better players get sponsors, but not the rookies or journeymen.
The deck is stacked and continues to get stacked against the PGA Tour every day. The PGAT will be around in 2024 but is headed for extinction just like the dinosaurs which are gone but not yet forgotten. Imagine a PGAT with few or no stars, fewer sponsors, less fans, diminished television entertainment media coverage, a quibbling batch of persons trying desperately trying to maintain control but, are only capable of playing the blame and shame game, the continuation of faulty legal decisions, Commissioners who withhold the truth from the players, accused of betrayal by players, who are controlled on the puppet masters strings, a cadre of investors who remain silent for unknown reasons, and players who cannot come together to secure their own future, a foreign entity wanting control with endless amounts of money to get their wish and with knowledge and wisdom at the top of their game to boot. The money, players, and fans are moving to LIV but, with a sour taste left forever in the mouth, so to speak. Is this the path to extinction? With growth comes change, lead, follow or get out of the way.
The podcast business may be good as many rely on podcasts for information but remain empty as hope slips away. Podcasts are kinda like watching the evening news, pointing out prejudice and everything wrong that just happened recently but only for self gain or purpose. When can any fan or observer hoping for constructive change for the better begin to see thinking and or strategic planning that will as in days gone by, provide meaningful results that bring to the forefront the maximum benefit? How can we that love golf move forward instead of, as I did as written above, be consumed by the negative. Time is of the essence. Pod-casters, restore our hope and bring to the table that which we want most, a way to make meaningful progress. Let's "GET'ER DONE"
Yawn..
.millionaires fighting with billionaires….so much whining
Guys the problem with the PGA are liv golf takes golf to the world. PGA is only for America and Europe
I don’t think the pga policy board want a merger with LIV. Rory was 100% correct about Cantlay. I’m from UK. PGA tour have screwed DP World Tour which is no better than korn ferry tour. PIF aren’t going away . If Augusta gave Yassir membership he would scrap LIV in a heartbeat this would solve all the problems. Failing that they should merge have a world tour. Welcome the LIV golfers back and scrap them stupid designated events. Apart from sentry which is for tournament winners and east lake for top 30. All events should be 72 holes full field events with a halfway cut.
LIV should get Rory but they’ll have to pay at least double what they paid for Rahm but I think that will finally make the PGA tour take notice. If they lost their biggest asset Jay will make a deal no matter what.
