PGA Tour and Brandel want a deal where LIV supplies all the money and the PGA Tour retains all the power and decision making ability. That is delusional and never going to happen.
What LIV deal? There is no LIV deal! They are holding all the cards and the PGA Tour has nothing but a weak hand. Fold em and walk away. Remember. Don’t negotiate with terrorist.
PGA Tour still has plenty of choices and options. Practically nobody is watching LIV Tour. For most of their events they are only selling 30-40K tickets. They bragged about selling 77K tickets for Adelaide, an event in a city of 1M+ people with a country starved for Tour golf. Harbour Town sold 125K tickets and is a pain in the ass to get to with the closest city being Savannah (1 hour away) that has a population of 450K people.. Do you really think Jon Rahm is going to make a serious enough dent in either tour?
The biggest issue for LIV is that their fields are too small, players get relegated if they don't finish in the top-24 and the captains are exempt. If you're a player without a major victory and want to play in majors and you join LIV, play poorly for a year and now you're essentially playing the Asian Tour. To add insult to injury, you could completely out-play a captain like Bubba or Phil (who were terrible this year on LIV) and they get to stay while you are without a Tour.
The other problem with LIV is that they don't really have access to a new influx of players because of the model and not getting OWGR points. The PGA Tour has hundreds of players vying for a new spot on their Tour. LIV can always pluck those players, but again…LIV's field size is so small they're not going to have room for everybody.
Or you could take a player like Rahm and what if he plays poorly and doesn't do anything in the majors for the next 3 years. Fact is, Rahm is more likely to not win another major than he is to win one. History shows that. And if he never wins another major or isn't really comeptitive, people will forget about him soon enough.
The deal going thru would be a great thing for golf because they could really combine forces and everybody…the players, the Tours and the fans…would win. But until LIV gets OWGR points (or the majors change their stance on OWGR) that will always be a roadblock for LIV, particularly since nobody really watches it. When it was on YouTube, its views were abysmal and as the PIF admitted, their profits from TV are 'virtually zero.'
All the PGA Tour has to do is not panic and stay the course.
Yes, the tentative agreement should be signed. Still, it all will have to survive anti-trust scrutiny. Here is how the NYTimes described the agreement: "The PGA Tour would remain a nonprofit organization and would retain full control over how its tournaments are played. But all of the PGA Tour’s commercial business and rights — such as the extremely lucrative rights to televise its tournaments — would be owned by a new, yet unnamed, for-profit entity that is currently called “NewCo.” NewCo will also own LIV as well as the commercial and business rights of the DP World Tour. The board of directors for the new for-profit entity would be led by Yasir al-Rumayyan, who is the governor of the Public Investment Fund and also oversees LIV. Three other members of the board’s executive committee would be current members of the PGA Tour’s board, and the tour would appoint the majority of the board and hold a majority voting interest, effectively controlling it".
sign the deal – no choice accept that you have lost me (and others) on watching if you do. Remember some years ago when the Japanese bought a bunch of golf courses in Hawaii and the U.S.- that didn't work out very well for them. I will just play more golf and watch much less- probably just the majors.
America's golf "sweetheart", Phil Michelson showed everyone what the values are here. It is not gold or an American sport it is just money (and everyone has a price in Golf).
The END is near for the PGA Tour it’s just a matter of time. Circle of the Sport and what goes around comes around. More will likely follow. Let’s be reminded that GOLF greats like Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Arnold Palmer, Lee Trevino and their other mates who way back then played tournaments under the PGA of America (founded in 1916) in 1960 began the process of breaking away and in 1975 the organization they created achieved full independence from the PGA of America and was named the "PGA Tour." The coming of LIV Golf is no different … In reality PGA tour is a SUNSET tour. Changing of the Guards !!
If I were Jordan Spieth the first thing I would do is call Greg Norman and become part of the future not the past.
What a hypocrite Brandel is he will do anything to try and save golf Central and himself 😜 too late you’ve already got forks in both of you 😆

Brandel in 2029: "I hope Putin buys the MLB. It's the best thing that could happen."
I mean, having the leader of a foreign country run a sport in the States is no bueno and you don't need 2 brain cells to rub together to know why.

Cham Lee is a damn hypocrite!
Who cares where the money comes from? The issue is whether you think golf is a team sport, and whether blaring music enhances golf.
Who gives a flying fuck? 😊

Saudi's money all comes from America ultimately anyway. We are all paying for whatever they do, so what difference does it make?
Brandel Chamblee = Choker Rory McIlroy !!!!! Both are all BS no Golf pedigree … They will stay in the PGA as they are "PERSONA NON GRATA" in LIV.
