People have opinions and make statements in real time and is based on what their current situation is at the time. Situations change as life happens and so does opinions and personal situations. So holding people to what they said before doesn’t make sense for those reasons. PGA requiring top players to play more isn’t as attractive as playing less for more money. PGA has no one to blame but themselves for the changes currently going on. Feels like more players will join Liv and tip the balance to Liv. But hey they still have Tiger and Rory and TGL golf on their side.
Dude, I just watched Philadelphia last night That band-aids is sus
LIV THE BEST, pgat to wokey to watch anymore.
DON'T BLINK
Good for him! Who can turn down half a billion just to play golf, and he still gets to play majors which are all that matter in the PGA tour anymore. People act like going to play for LIV is literally playing for satan or something. the PGA tour has shown themselves to be unethical why should players care?
I don't hold him for taking the money — but his word is lost i.e. credibility
3 rounds and no cuts! Senior PGA!
Nobody watches Liv nobody cares about liv…John your dead to me! Enjoy!
That's the legacy down the drain. lol Eejit.
Rex, banging your head against the wall will not stop the Exodus of players going to LIV.
It’s sad. I’ve watched the PGA Tour religiously for 40 years. The best players in the world. But now, I won’t watch LIV and the PGA Tour is a watered down version of its former self. My retirement is calling so maybe watching golf each and every week has ended.
How long before a major mainstream network decides to pull the trigger and cover LIV events? Seems like it's only a matter of time.
If another organization wanted to pay me more money to do less work, I’d do it in a heartbeat.
He has the green jacket already
Must be nice, I got layed off from my corporate job. One would be crazy not to take the money and set your family up for generations while also making more time to spend with your friends and family.
Shipnuck tried to enter the "select" press conference, but was seen leaving on a spit. The PGA Tour has been cherry picking the best European and Asian Tour players for decades with the allure of higher purses, but no guaranteed money.
Holy shit the PGA is so mad everyone is wording it like he’s a monster when in reality he’s offered half a bill to play a game and your upset he’s not settling with like 1/50th the money from pga
Jay may have to throw in his current hand. Those Saudis will just keep upping the ante. Fenway whatever doesn't have the scratch for this game. The US anti trust laws may not let the merger take place. Where's Bob Menendez when he's needed?
"pledging his fealty": that is what the PGA wanted up front and he did that, then they made a deal to merge the tours. I would say screw you and take the money after that as well.
If rahm, Cantlay, Xander, and a plus 1 team up they will win all LIV events
It’s money money money…..period
Sell your soul to Saudis prostitutes abound, what’s the price?
Times a changing all you middle aged white males
Good for him. Get that money 💰
#Rahm is a pos lying traitor
I don't like the team concept at all. Save that for the Ryder Cup.
B. Chamblee said he gave up the potential to make more money with a continued with a win percentage of 8%. But how long would that take? That doesn't factor in those unaccountable factors, such as injury or accidents. He is going to make 1/2 billion in the near term, not over a decade. Good for him!
A rich man selling out to the Saudis to go play glorified exhibitions.
If somebody offered me $600MM to play on their tour, I would have just one question: "Where is the first tee?"
It’s interesting … to listen to Jon interviews, first. Then come to these ‘commentaries’.
9 outta 10 commentaries have ‘fabricated’ many…many…things, facts, etc.
Big so what. Winning on LIV is like winning the Poughkeepsie Open. No real golf fan cares. I for one am not gonna miss Rahm in the slightest. Used to skip past him on my dvr recordings anyway just like so many commercials. Funny, but I used to always skip past Bryson, and DJ back when and always skip past Cantlay and Xander presently. Please go to LIV you two. Who can even watch “paint dry” as Cantlay settles in for another eternity to try and make a putt. Have fun playing no consequence exhibition games with Jon.
A possible answer by the PGA and major contributors, specifically equipment and apparel companies, would be to cut off sponsorships for LIV players.
Take away their clubs, balls, access to proprietary tech, and all perks that go along with associations to the organizations. Let LIV find different equipment to use.
Then, treat the PGA tour like early versions of other pro sports in the past. For example, 'Team Taylormade' becomes exactly that. A team formed by courtship of players with negotiable contracts based on performance and appeal.
Start with the 5 or 6 big club companies. Provide a fixed number each team can sign, leaving unsigned pro's a chance to play their way onto someone's radar. The team, with the most points earned during the season, would win the championship trophy. Individuals would still fight for a single title as well.
Tournament sponsorships and charitable efforts will come back because one major focus of golf's corporate driving force, revenue from the rest of us, will return to the core beauty of the game. The game itself. All while leaving the parties to the occasional shotgun-start golf outing. ✌️🏌♂️
COPE AND SEETHE HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Everyone knows it’s all about the money. Luv players are not the hero’s their format is only 3 days. Lots of the liv players were my hero’s not anymore. Too much greed. No history for them, no admire for a lot of fans. PGA players we continue to play for the pride of the game of golf. Stick to the tradition. Even thou some of them won majors lot of us don’t care about their legacy. Not a fan for Liv players
We’ll he has the money but that tour might still come to a end it’s built on a corrupt government who knows golf is a funny sport
You're both sadly and pathetically missing the point! Let's be honest. Jon Rahm went to LIV STRICTLY FOR THE 600 MILLION. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING FOR ALL PRO GOLFERS IS MONEY! Don't believe any of that nonsense about loving the game and titles being the most important. You can always judge people by their actions. Rahm and other golf stars chose the LIV money over anything the PGA Tour had to offer – history, titles, fame, legacy, or loyalty. I'm happy for Rahm. How could anyone in their right mind turn down 600m! Money is the most important thing in this world for 99% of the people. They all have a price, a number, they will accept. More PGA stars will leave for LIV, I'm sure of it. This might be the end of the PGA Tour as we know it. That will be a deserving fate because of their greed that Michelson pointed out, and because they have tried to monopolize pro golf. From the beginning, LIV has had a right to exist and recruit players, who of their on free will join it. Also, all of that talk about Saudi money being blood money because of the Saudi human rights violations and political murders is hypocritical nonsense. Look at the war crimes and murder the USA is supporting with Israel's murderous genocide of Palestinian civilians in Gaza, for one clear example. USA money is blood money too. We live in a world where many corporations and companies make billions of dollars off of war and murder, or off of polluting the planet with smog and chemicals. So, all of the golf tours and professional sports are full of blood money. I don't like LIV's format or their loud music, but with all of that Saudi money involved it is here to stay. I do think we will soon see a merger of the two tours, because that will be the only way the PGA tour survives.
Has enough wins, with 2 majors to be in hall of fame. Its all about money, remember Anthony Kim, injured, career over. Tyrrell Hatten and Finau right behind.
soulless
Interestingly, PIF is pumping obscene amounts of money into Christians men as poor Muslims nations are starved for hospitals and schools…
Aside from that Jay M. handled the loyalty of PGA poorly which seems to be the elephant in the room…
What changed his mind was how poorly he realized the PGA tour is run and how it is managed.
Love LIV. The pga tour is and has been a joke the min tiger left.
Read my comment below for more of my thoughts on this issue. What I like about LIV is: 3-day tournaments (4 days is too long), no cut (all players get paid), high purses (wealth attracts fans and TV), Global golf (new great courses and more countries involved), the best players in the world (Rahm, Koepka, DeChambeau, Johnson, etc.), and team play (keeps players focused and trying hard). What I don't like about LIV: loud music (noisy and distracting), shotgun start (removes introductions and drama from 1st tee), and not enough tournaments in the USA (which is the golf capital of the world). Even if the PGA Tour gets billionaire investors, they had better merge with LIV or they will lose many fans. Palmer, Nicklaus, and Woods proved without a doubt, it's the superstars that matter the most. They had better get those golf superstars back on their tour somehow someway, or it's sayonara, ciao, and adios.
