The END is near for the PGA Tour it’s just a matter of time. Circle of the Sport and what goes around comes around. More will likely follow. Let’s be reminded that GOLF greats like Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Arnold Palmer, Lee Trevino and their other mates who way back then played tournaments under the PGA of America (founded in 1916) in 1960 began the process of breaking away and in 1975 the organization they created achieved full independence from the PGA of America and was named the "PGA Tour." The coming of LIV Golf is no different … In reality PGA tour is a SUNSET tour. Changing of the Guards !!
KUDOS to Jon Rahm… Strike the IRON while it's still HOT. Bravo Jon Rahm !!!
Bye bye pga tour! Liv IS the Tour now
Only an American would ask why would they jump if it was not for the money. The reality is that anyone OUS has been forced by PGAT to play and llive in the USA to hold OWGR points etc to be away from family, friends etc (Smith did not see his family for 3 years over COVID). This was not the way back 10-20+ years ago when Luke Donald, Martin Kaymer and others could be world #1 and consistently top 10 while being based in Europe and playing occasional tournaments in the USA around the major and a few signature events. Smith left for the same reason Rham will, the ability to live life how and where they chose with more time with their familes and children in cultures they are more comfortable in. Even for the Americans on LIV their time demand is much less and the tournaments are set up in clumps that work around the majors, so they can be home and train be comfortable then go on a short road tour of events. PGAT was simply the school bully that told players and world tours how it was going to be, now LIV is giving them a better choice. So yes it is not about the money since they are all obscenely wealthy at the top of the game. Moreover the more stars who defect, the more certain the OWGR will need to be changed or cease to have relevance. The more players who defect the more R&A and PGA of America as opposed to PGAT will need to work out how to incorporate both tours as their beloved majors etc will shrink in commercial value. As someone who has watched the PGAT starve world golf of a game not invented in the USA the happier we all are that there is now choice, PGAT brought all of this on themselves, while other global sports like the olympics, FIFA, F1, ATP even darts focus on making their sport global. To be fair this was never the mission of PGAT a US based NFP association…… the failure of commercial TV rights golf to grow with the game is again linked to PGAT having more than enough of the pie and therefore no interst in it getting bigger or being shared. LIV will change that as they are with football and other sports.
Let's have this breakdown for Ohtani, or the Soto deal etc etc etc. It's always about the money. Why do we treat golf differently?
You could have had the same narrative about all the golfers who left their tours in Europe, Australia Japan etc, leaving for more money. Now The PGA is losing THEIR big players for the same reason, get used to it, stop crying lol
Rahm "Said he felt betrayed" after PGA shook hands on a deal with LIV, so I guess it's time to look after yourself, good luck to the guy
It’s just not true that he would only leave for the money. Here are the Top 10 reasons Rahm would leave NOT for the money:
1: less tournaments (at least for now)=more family time.
2: more fun.
3. Valderrama.
4. Sergio and the other Spaniards there.
5. Kinda tired of the golden boys.
6. Felt betrayed
7. May want to have his own team
8. Has major security which is what really matters.
9. Try something new.
10. Sees the writing on the wall.
WHAT CHANGED for Rahm, well he's going to have allot more info then we all do and maybe he see's THE WRITING is on the wall and the PGA is in serious Jeopardy, SO, Take the Money while u can and before its no longer available. Thats what has changed. People thought LIV was a passing fad. Turns out its not. So, Rahms decision making process has changed. With teh Majors, Rham Has 5 to 10 years of exceptions and LIFE for the Masters. It may not JUST about the money, Rahm may now believe that the PGA is in serious decline and jump ship before its to late.
What a pathetic “journalist”
