Rahm cracked me up. For a player who claimed to live for golfs heritage, he now disappears completely, to be forgotten.

To rate their signings, you have to identify their goals. My guess is that they wanted to send warning shots to the golfing establishments rather than win a war. They signed the #3, #16 and #42 world ranked players. All are Europeans so that puts pressure on the European Ryder Cup decision makers. Also puts pressure on the Open Championship to bring in these 3 European players. Also means the top 12 on LIV might very well win a Ryder Cup type competition against the top 12 from the PGA and a lot of fans only care about the big stars. Given their deep pockets, I suspect the PIF did close to exactly what they wanted to do with regards to signings, etc.

It was an A- to B+ offseason. You’re ignoring that LIV’s big thing is global/international. Hatton at $60 is worth more than Clark/Finau at $75-85.

Having Hatton sign so late basically says to me that again it's all and only about the money, and that for all Mickelson's preening, without the bottomless bucket of money, there is nothing compelling about that tour.

A- maybe B+ as of right now. Hatton and Meronk are huge signings to go with Rahm.
If they get AK it would be an amazing off-season. If they can somehow get Hovland like by tomorrow, it would have been an off the hook off-season. A++

It’s important to remember that even with the money they can spend, LIv is still having to chip away strategically and carefully.

Surely guys have Been interested as hatton has talked about, but actually getting them to give up owgr points and leave the establishment is still very tricky.

Dunlap had to go to the pga tour …must keep in mind he is qualified for every signature event on the pga tour and we really don’t know how much LIv offered him, if anything.

So yes of course his simple natural move at least in the short run is to the pga tour. He can use the pga tour to further raise his stock m. Dunlap has a lot of career left. If he keeps shining, I’m sure we will see him on LIv sooner or later.

And btw amateur experts like Berko have said various other guys were actually seen as more likely to succeed in the pro game
    Than Dunlap.

I am intrigued for rahm and hatton. I just wish Sergio was somehow with them.

It’s gonna be really hard to get those pga tour golden boys.

It was a good off-season. I don’t think you are putting enough weight on the guys they already had that unlike the pga tour they did not lose at LIv.

Livs roster is already very stout. They are not trying to take just any pga tour guy that wants to come over.

Until they can have all the top top players at once, which is coming, they have to be very strategic in every pickup.

Let’s go Vik ! More like 3o event season. But Vik can do it! What a looper job that would be carrying for Vik through LIv, pga tour signature events, majors and the top DP events. How much you think his caddie alone would make ?

Also while I am disappointed there were no other household names besides Rahm, you both are underestimating how big of a deal that was. Rahm IS the current greatest player in the WORLD. It’s like signing Ronaldo or Messi, it’s big. The question is what Liv will do with that, they need to change stuff up.

It seems LIV could have gotten more big names, they just weren't prepared to pay what the players were asking. Rumours floating are that Clark and Finau each wanted $100 m but LIV weren't prepared to pay that. So yes they have endless money but they are still targeting and paying what they perceive as value. Good win for Dunlap and he may well be a future star, however LIV have also recruited young players out of college or not long out of college, so they also have an eye to creating future stars ad well. Hear Phil speak about the academies they are looking to establish to groom future players into stars. So don't just believe LIV is just for the here and now, they are also looking to the future.

The test what is good for golf doesn't have to past the test of what is good for the PGA. A merger is not needed. Why can't there be 3,4,5 different Tours…just because the PGA wants to keep their hands tight on the monopoly they had up to now on world golf? That will just force the different tours to better their product in order to attract the best players…if not they will play on another tour…easy as pie. Then you can have a "World Tour" where top 10 or 20 of each tour play against each other…Greg Norman's idea pitched in 1994 to PGA (not Rory's dream like he said). Why only now was news about Hatton going to LIV made public…why not? And there is at least another 2 to fill up Rahm's team to be named…probably decided a while ago but wanted time to play some events before going public, who knows and what does it matter? What it does mean is that PGA is getting ore and more irrelevant…almost like the OWGR pretending to matter while everybody knows their ranking is not worth the paper it's written on. I would go as far as to say that the Majors would have to add LIV players despite the BS OWGR rankings if they want to stay relevant on not start to fade as tie goes by… Your argument that guys on LIV is just doing it for the money is ridiculous! Making Money is everybody motivation to do a certain job…to get paid for what you do. Golf is their job and they chose to work for an employer willing to pay the for their services. The players on PGA that didn't take the offer made that choice…if it was because Jay (once a Division III player but making more money from golf in 2023 except maybe top 3) lied to the, or they were just to stupid to accept hoping they will get the same money on PGA. So the money BS is just an excuse…that's why they play golf…to make money and if lucky enough, to win a few titles or even a Major or 2. Another mistake you are making…America is not the world (like your baseball calling itself the world series)…you're just a country. Golf is a world sport and watched by the world. Why would LIV make such a huge offer like you said to a guy that only started his pro career now…no wins as an amateur…at least pretend that you think before you speak.

LIV is WINNING. They have Rahm, arguably thr best golfer in the world right now. Not to mention Brooks, Brooksy, Phil, etc, etc. PGA Tour only cares about the PGA Tour, not the players. They are hiding money, that's why they didn't want to open their books in court. LIV is here to stay.

We can all seemingly forget US domestic Majors such as The Masters. It seems highly invested new global Majors are almost inevitable with the globalisation of golf. This seems to be a great opportunity for investors such as PIF.

Liv is more like exhibition golf. Fine for those who don’t want to see traditional competition, where guys gotta grind to get paid, win and retain membership on pga, qualify for a place in history and compete at the majors.
Most of liv players have won, even majors, now where’s the $$$$. Can’t blame them , but why try and punish the pga? Sure pga looks like the bad guys here but it’s an old traditional organization with a lot of history. The introduction of over million dollar 1st place prizes, now over $3 mill in some , isn’t that enough?
Now players want to get paid before the first tee off. My thought go play exhibition golf but don’t spit on pga just because it’s trying to survive. These liv players should be praising pga because this is what made them!

I watch both tours. but the pga tour is noticeable lacking big names from week to week. You can count on Liv to have the same players in each event.. In the long haul I believe it will get worked out like when the AFL in football came about and started taking players from the NFL and the college draft. The NFL dogged the AFL as a lesser league. But as you all know they merged and its better than before. I believe they will evidently work it out and ALL the great players will be playing together in certain events besides the majors. Everyone just needs to relax and enjoy Golf.
